Hytec Supports Learning In Rural KZN
Mrs
Sindi Nkabini (left), a Technology educator from Gobindlovu High school,
and a colleague examine a special water-testing kit supplied by Umgeni
Water.
Gobindlovu Technical High School, a needy rural High school in the
Pietermaritzburg region sponsored by Hytec as part of its Social
Corporate Responsibility initiative, was one of 15 schools invited on an
educational outing to Umgeni Water in March this year.
With the advent of Outcomes Based Education, the various teaching
resources and facilities offered by Umgeni Water have become very
popular with teachers, especially those from under- resourced schools.
Water purification is a topic that covers a number of learning areas
(subjects) from Science to Biology to Agriculture and even Economics.
Learners who belong to schools serviced by the Umgeni programme have
access to special water-testing kits, go on excursions to water
purification sites, receive colourful posters, are encouraged to begin
environmental clubs and are exposed to relevant presentations in the
areas of water supply.
According to Gobindlovu principal, Mr Mbali Nkabini, his school is
constantly being exposed to amazing educational opportunities and school
resources as a result of being members of the Schooltrade network.
Nkabini thanked Hytec for making this possible.
