Hytec Supports Vacation Learning
For the past three years
Hytec has sponsored a technical high school in rural KZN to be part of
the Schooltrade network. Located about 50km north of Pietermaritzburg in
a highland area known as Vulindlela, Gobindlovu High School and its
staff and pupils are well known for their hard work and commitment.
In an effort to improve Matric marks this year, educators at Gobindlovu
have volunteered to assist the school’s Matrics with a special
supplementary Winter-School programme during the July vacation.
Most educators involved in the programme live in nearby Pietermaritzburg.
Such is their commitment that they were willing to travel (at their own
expense) the return trip of some 100km daily to support the Winter
School. Classes were offered in Maths, Science and Accounting and at the
time of this report attendance was almost 100%.
In the picture, a group of Matric Accountancy learners celebrate solving a problem set by their teacher, Miss N. Bhengu (in background). The learners are (from left to right) Nompila Zuma, Pretty Bhengu, Samkelisizwe Nxele and Nomthandazo Ngcobo. All four said they would love to pursue careers in Accountancy if they could secure the necessary funding.
Hytec was pleased to surprise the educators by offering to fund their
travel expenses, as well as providing small incentives for the
participating learners.
Hytec wishes the staff and future accountants from Gobindlovu High well
in their Matric year!
Another school added to the list!
In June, Hytec extended similar support to Siyanda High School in rural
Sweetwaters.
Siyanda principal, Mr. R. Mdladla was thrilled that Hytec had selected
his school to be sponsored onto Schooltrade. He made a point of thanking
local ward counsellor S. Ntuli for contacting Hytec on his behalf. Mike
Harrison from Hytec said that his company was proud to be associated
with the staff and learners of Siyanda High.
As a result of being part of Schooltrade, Siyanda educators will receive
regular teacher training and benefit from the popular Schooltrade Swap
Shop, a project that distributes good second-hand equipment into needy
schools.
If your business would like to make a difference in a needy school in
the Pietermartizburg area, contact Colin McKay from Schooltrade on
