Hytec Mining Vehicles Comply With Strict Safety Standards

Hytec, the largest supplier of hydraulic
components and systems in southern Africa, now boasts a fleet of field service
vehicles that are compliant with the latest safety and risk requirements of the
mining industry.
In order to fulfil the installation contract it won with BHP Billiton in
Witbank, an area notorious for thick, heavy mist that causes poor visibility and
poses a high accident risk, Hytec has had to modify its field service vehicles
to comply with strict Astrim Certification.
According to Desmond Scott, Installations Manager, Hytec, new stringent
regulations were imposed to avoid any possible incidents on mining sites. “Four
vehicles, all double-cab Toyota bakkies, were fitted with the latest safety
equipment as per the mining safety and risk regulations,” Scott explains.
The modifications include rubberisation, fire resistant upholstery, airbags,
cargo nets, fire extinguishers, flashing lights, reverse sound indicators,
two-way radio’s, roll-cages, reflective strips, identification stickers, life
jackets and buggy whip flags.
“Hytec is now geared for any mining contract as our vehicles adhere to the set
security standards,” says Scott.
